Ÿ  inappropriate  and  excessive  use  of  voice,  it  is
            preventable. For example, people who use voice
            for  their  profession,  such  as  singers,  actors,
            teachers/lecturers,  telephone  operators,
            politicians,  lawyers,  venders  etc.  are  at  risk  for
            voice disorders due to excessive use of voice. We
            should try to preserve our voice by following the
            Dos and Don'ts.


       DOs

          Ÿ  Take small sips of water at regular intervals
             to keep the vocal cords hydrated

          Ÿ  Say “mmm….. or hum before lecturing or
             performing in a concert
          Ÿ  Use facial expressions and physical gestures
             to express emotions rather than speaking
          Ÿ  Swallowing saliva and coughing silently

             reduces the need to clear throat
          Ÿ  Speak slowly, pause often at natural phrase
             boundaries, so your body can breathe
             naturally

          Ÿ  Get more rest and sleep prior to heavy voice
             use
          Ÿ  Allow time for a short nap before important
             speaking commitments whenever possible
          Ÿ  Face the listener while speaking

          Ÿ  Switch to drinks which do not contain
             caffeine like lime juice

          Ÿ  Avoid inadequate rest and sleep patterns as
             it affects voice
