Abstract:
The bone conduction implant (BCI) is the device through which sound is transmitted to the inner ear by vibrating the skull, where the external and middle ear is bypassed. The present study systematically reviewed articles related to speech perception outcomes and patient satisfaction among bone conduction implants recipients. There is a total of 13 articles considered for the present study. The results were analyzed based on different speech perception tests mentioned in the studies for speech perception outcomes and subjective rating used for the patient satisfaction questionnaires. All the studies have shown positive outcomes for speech perception tests using bone conduction implants and good patient satisfaction ratings in the existing literature. Hence, based on the present systematic review, it can be concluded that BCI is efficient and safer to recommend to patients with conductive or mixed hearing loss.
