Abstract:
The study was carried out with the aim of determining the discourse abilities in neurotypical participants and persons with the psychogenic disorders. 10 neurotypical participants and 5 persons diagnosed with psychogenic disorders were considered. Amongst the 5 persons diagnosed with psychogenic disorders, two participants each were diagnosed with anxiety disorder; schizophrenia and one participant diagnosed with bipolar disorder were considered. Picture description was carried out on the participants, a total of 3 pictures were used and a number of conceptual (c) units produced by the participants was taken into consideration. The number of c units produced by participants with the psychological disorder was markedly low compared to the neurotypical participants. Qualitative analysis carried out in adjunct revealed errors like perseveration, circumlocution, egocentric and irrelevant descriptions.
