Use the following instructions to install new software or to upgrade from a previous version. If you are installing an upgrade, you may be required to provide proof of ownership.
1. Restart Windows and turn off any antivirus software.
2. Connect the machine to the Internet.
3. Start the installation:
Adobe recommends you back up your download package, preferably to a DVD before installing the software. When you double-click on the .exe to decompress it:
For Windows XP operating systems,
<system drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Desktop\Adobe Acrobat XI folder is created on the desktop.
For Windows 7 and 8 operating systems,
<system drive>:\users\<user name>\Desktop\Adobe Acrobat XI folder is created on the desktop.
When ready to install, open the Adobe Acrobat XI folder and double-click setup.exe
In the Adobe Acrobat XI setup dialog box, select a language and click “OK”. Be sure to select the language that you purchased. Click “Next” on the Adobe Acrobat XI Setup screen. The installer computes disc space requirements and checks for previous versions. If a previous version of the same Acrobat product is found, press Continue to uninstall it.
4. The setup screen requests you to enter your name, organization, and serial number. If you are using the product in Trial mode or have purchased a subscription (Pro only) you do not need to enter a serial number. If you will be entering a serial number, be sure the machine is connected to the internet since on-line serial number validation will be done. Note: Installing in Trial mode allows you to use the software for the Trial period of 30 days from first launch.
5. Enter the serial number for your copy of the program. The serial number for individually licensed purchases is located on the outside of the DVD case, or on the receipt page for ESD (electronic software delivery) purchases made through the Adobe Store. You can also locate the serial number for individually licensed ESD purchases in your online order history at http://www.adobe.com. The serial number for purchases made through the Adobe Licensing Website is available in your record at http://licensing.adobe.com.
6. Click “Next” in the Adobe License Activation screen. Activation is an anonymous series of simple and quick steps completed by the software. For more information on product activation, visit the Adobe website at: http://www.adobe.com/go/activation/
7. Select an installation type:
Note: For a description of a component, select Custom, and click Next. Then select a component to see its description. Click Back to return to selecting a type of installation if you do not want to continue with a custom installation.
Click “Next”. Change the installation directory (if desired), else the default directory is visible and Click “Next”.
8. Click “Install” and installation now proceeds. If there are processes running that conflict with the installation, the installer will prompt you to stop these processes before you can continue the installation. Close the process and click in the installer to continue the installation.
9. The last dialog is “Setup Completed”. Click “Finish” and now Acrobat can be launched.
10. On launch, accept the end user license agreement to allow you to use the software.
11. If you entered a serial number during installation, please see step 12 below. If you are using Acrobat in Trial mode or for a subscription (Pro only), the Sign In Required screen appears. On the Sign In Required screen select “Sign in now”. On the Sign In screen, enter your Adobe ID credentials. If you don’t have an Adobe ID click on “Create an Adobe ID”, provide the details as asked. Then, click on Create. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the creation process. Click “Sign In”. Acrobat should now be usable.
12. If you entered a serial number during installation, the Register screen appears. On the Register screen enter your Adobe ID credentials. If you don’t have an Adobe ID click on “Create an Adobe ID”, provide the details as asked. Then, click on Create. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Adobe ID creation and registration process. You can optionally press “Skip”.
